I was at Halfmoon beach today during low tide (Port Washington) and saw some chunks of macroalgae floating around so I decided to bring some back.

Has anyone tried culturing these? My purple tang seems to love it, and there's this one variety that looks like red dragon's tongue that's very pretty under T5s.

depending on where you pick it up from iv heard that macro that is close to the beaches can have nasties in it from local pollution. Someone once told me that if you collect macro you should go out a few miles on a boat.

Uh oh, maybe I should be yanking them out then? I rinsed it few times in RO before throwing it in but not sure if that does much. Water seemed fairly clean, with the shore brimming with nassaurius and local hermits.

Maybe I should throw it in my fuge then. I was hoping it'd be a slow grower so it could serve as an aesthetic piece. My tang is beginning to ignore it too...hmm. It's really pretty though under artificial lighting. :)
