But elos is the best of the best maker of aquarium!!!! Their Ferrai Red(Licensed by Ferrai) MH is a beauty. Their cabinet is well thought and made, not to mention the black siliconed low iron glass. Their stuff are alway museum quality and I believe they know what they are doing when going with LED. I say don't be freightened by the high price. It comes with quality. It's almost a complete system with even the freshwater reservoir. Everything is neat and artistic. It' just a matter if you have extra cash.

The truth is, if I am not building tanks myself, I would go for their tanks/system too.

150W MH by Coralife $305+sh
20G rimless tank with low iron glass $200+sh
Cabinet of similar quality $400+sh
Skimmer AquaC Urchin w/ pump $180+sh
A sump $100 let say custom king is willing to make one similar
reefer ready and plumbing parts $100

TOTAL =1285 + SH. Not very far from Elos' system price!
Our Hobby is so expensive that we don't even realize. No matter how you wanna cut corner, it still gets you. LOL

I've seen the tank and LED at GA. The light is amazing. They have a little bit of everything in the tank to test the light out. It has the appearance of at least a 150MH over the tank, it even shimmers a bit.

For 700 bux I could buy a halide light that has been tested and proven successful. Not a light that still is working out the kinks.

"Not (too) proven" is correct as not too many people dare to use them and only time can tell but "working out the kinks" is not. All my users have great feedback so far. The manual version of mine have no kinks. Only the most talk about brand has tons of kinks as I think they don't know electronics. Even the low end Powerbrite by Coralife, which was not even designed for aquairum use has, no kinks. But since it's orignally designed for home interior uses by the manufacturer, the light output is weak. The factory actually sold these LEDs to other countries as cabinet strip light for a long time before Coralife picks them up and use them in their Powerbrite series. So most people have chosen the wrong references as the products and technology is too new. But, I have great confidence in Elos, whatever they release, is like "stamp of confidence" So I think using their product as a reference point is much more appropriate in comparing technology std. as mine is too no name brand and other brands are just wrong choices to start with.

My experience is that if you OPTIMIZED 54W of LED for light output, 54W LED can yield higher par than 150MH. Many LED makers do not optimize it for light output, so their light is only 80% of their possible brightness.

elos had released the par info and spectral graphs for the e-lite, they are very impresive. Also, if you still want both MH and LED.... the e-lite can be incorporated into the mantas MH fixture ;)

Wingo this is all well and good and I understand what you are saying but until people like Dr. Sanjay who are independent from manufacturers give it the stamp of approval then I am not going to even consider it.

The costs of the units are high but if I never have to replace a bulb it's worth it. If the light lasts 10 years without need for replacement then maybe I can justify it. If I pay 700 dollars now and in 2 years the LED's need replacement and I need to spend 700 dollars then it doesn't pay.

I hear you.

Actually, I really wish Sanjay start working on LEDs too.
