How much energy does a chiller use? (information in thread)

Ok, I am currently moving and must keep energy consumption down. I am adjusting lighting (usual culprit) and now contemplating chiller. this is the model:

Does it always run at that wattage? or just when it goes on? Trying to use energy calculator to see what it will run me assuming NYC energy is roughly 18cents per killowatt hr.

It only uses the full wattage when on. You'll have to guesstimate how long it runs per day to use the MR caluclator.

Thanks Dom, Im going to high ball it at it running 12 hrs. a day and NYC being 20cents a killowatt hr. and see how bad it is

will do, im going to try and plug whole tank into one strip temporarily (one day) to see what whole tank runs in one day and take it from there, so I can just put the money aside rather than being shocked at bill or having to fight with some old lady (land lord) screaming at me (literally occured this morning) over my "fish box" (her disciption of my tank) pissed me off more

The thing is the house doesnt have seperate meters, so she gave me a flat $100 a month fee for electricity and now she worse than my mom. I understand her point, but im stuck between a rock and a hard place, and she cant give me a bill, but still is listening if I left an AC on and calls me at work. JUST GIVE ME A DAMN BILL, OR STOP BI%$hing!

I have the killowatt and it works great. Back to your landlords point, I have to admit, running my return pumps, chiller and lights increases my electric bill substantially. I remember bitching about how much Lipa charges, and looking for the most efficient equipment. Good luck, I know my chiller uses around 185 watts when it kicks on, but only for 2-3 hours at time during the summer.

The thing is the house doesnt have seperate meters, so she gave me a flat $100 a month fee for electricity and now she worse than my mom. Ok. I can see her point. You should use that meter on everything that is plugged in so you can guess how much electricity you are using. My electric bill was averaging $700 a month during the summer. If my super had that as part of his bill he'd lose interest in my aquariums quickly.

Did i do something wrong on the reef calc? I plugged in all my info, checked it 3 times and it said my annual usage cost was $41,306?!

AH nm i see what happened. I like to over estimate and when I changed the rate per kilowatt i left the decimal out so i was paying $20 a kilowatt
