ballast wiring

I need to extend my ground wire from my ice cap ballasts so that it reaches the common ground.

Can I just join another similar guage wire or is this playing with fire.

I got these ballasts used and for some reason the person I purchased them from cut the grounds short.

You can extend the ground with the same gauge.

Here is a more specific photo: Wire Conectors. Lowes and Home Depot carry these and they are cheap. Connecting them is a breeze and since they are insulated you don't have to worry about electrical issues.

Yes you can, you can use those Sta Kons as Dom has suggested or regular wire nuts which are about 5 cents each and can be gotten at any Hardware store.

use wire nut unless you have a good crimping tool the butt splice will be weak, a wire nut will be tight

i am a electrician for 15 years if its a ground it does not carry any electrical current there for your connection can be made with a but connector or as stated buy others a wire nut would also work but connector is a much cleaner look rap the connection with electrical tape to keep it from corosion.
