Has any one blown a metal halide bulb ?

I bought one new about 2 months ago and noticed it was out this am. I change with a old one but thought it was strange. My old one is 8 months old and still kicking.

2 months is a short time for a MH bulb to "burn out", I would contact the company and try to return the bulb.

mh bulbs can burn a long time,just not with the same intensity n spec.
burnt bulb in 2 months can b due to:
defective bulb
bad ballast
stray voltage
electrical surge
water spray

where u get it n what kinda bulb?

I got it , I blew the breaker twice. to much stuff on one breaker

Yeah Mikey it's a tough nut to swallow at times....


Jarret, that was a new bulb; blew out like that in the first day I used it.

Like any other manufactured product, sometimes there are defects in individual items. It is not that uncommon to find a bad MH lamp. As with most other goods, you tend to get what you pay for and lamps from long term quality manufacturers ( German, Japanese) tend to have fewer incidences of defect. The cheaper Chinese imports have notoriously spotty production values with a higher number of bad lamps and inconsistent lamp performance. Stick with brands like Ushio, Iwasaki and Giessman and you will find far fewer problems.

I would return your lamp and ask for a replacement.

This was the first and only bulb that did that in the dozen or so I've used (both 250 and 175W). While this about 2 years ago Tony from Reef Exotics replaced the bulb no questions asked.
