So, I'm wondering how feeding live brine shrimp works. You get them in a little bag with water. The directions say to rinse them in fresh water before putting into the tank. Are brine shrimp salt or fresh-water creatures? How long would they survive in a tank if uneaten by the fish? One probably won't throw the whole batch in at once - how long would they survive in a jar? Someone once suggested to keep them in the fridge, which would slow down their demise. The fridge?!

Putting them in the fridge will keep them alive for an extra day or two. Make sure you don't cover them as they need oxygen to live. An airline helps too, don't use an airstone as the bubbles get stuck in their bodies and they will die.

Don't wash them with freshwater, brine shrimp only live in super salinated waters (salt lakes).

You can put the water through a strainer to get the shrimp out, mix in some of your tank water, and then put them in a turkey baster. Stick the baster about halfway into the tank and the shrimp will swim out over an hour or so. If the baster is transparent then the fish will sit there waiting for them to come out.

If you have any shrimp or corals they will eat them as well.

You should think about soaking them in selcon the night before feeding as they are actually very low in nutrition.

I don't have any vitamins yet (haven't gotten around to it yet.) But I do have garlic extreme. Can I soak them in that??

Would it be a good idea to wash them in salty water or is that just unnecessary altogether??
