Crushed Coral... or not

:scratchch Does anybody here use crushed coral?

If so, are there any benefits over live sand? If not... why not?

NO crushed coral! EVER.

it traps detritous and becomes the worlds best nitrate sponge.
if you like your nitrates in the 40-60 ppm range then crushed coral is the way to go :sgrin:

sand does not trap the same crud, it breaks it down. at least it's supposed to. that's a whole other debate.

Ok then... in that case, anyone want my seeded 10-15lb crushed coral for $5 :knockedou

I use sand and araggrite in my tank. The big problem with crush coral is that stuff, like waste and food, can get down in the sand bed because the crush coral tends to be larger and leaves spaces where sand doesn't.
