if it eats it will fight it off, if not hyposalinity is the right way to go, now that the tank itself will have ick.

First you need to id that it is ich before you start to treat as hyposalinity only works against ich. Also if you have a reef tank or a tank with live rock or iverts you can't do hyposalinity unless you take everything out of the tank, otherwise they'll die. The best thing to do is get the fish out of the tank and if it's ich treat using hyposalinity in a quartine tank or container. If it's not ich get yourself so copper and start to treat the fish. You should always quartine all your fish as it's better that the fish dies in a quartine tank then in your tank and kills off all your fish.

how long has fish been in the tank? ick will drop off the fish and live in the rock and substrate making fish look like its cured, then it looks for another host. Iam facing the same thing, unfortunately for me I have inverts tha wont tolerate hyposalinity, if the damsel is the only thing you have now, then i say do hyposalinity on the entire system. i tried kick ich "reef safe" didnt do jack for me, some reported good things.think ick has 30 day cycle... good luck.

Actually ich live on and iin your fish and works it way through the body, what you see on the body is the theronts which is the last stage before the ich falls off and start to mulitple in your tank. Usally from the fish being first effected to the white spot falling off is a 5-7 day cycle. Once the spore is in the sand bed it could last for up to a month before it dies off, that why you need to treat for about 4 weeks but some time you need to treat longer then that. Also another sign of ich is clouding or white film on the eye which unless treated could cause the fish to lose the eye or damage it.

If your going to use a copper the best that I've used is a product called Copper Power, very strong and you can treat a higher dose. Also you don't want to treat your main tank with copper as you'll never get it out.

I hope there were no theronts that fell off the fish, other wise as Michael stated the tank will be infected. then you would have to take the fish out for ten weeks to make sure you break the ich cycle. it's no fun :(

always quarantine, it's much easier then the painful alternatives.
