Is dead coral rock a bad thing to add to my reef tank???

what do you mean dead coral rock? You mean one of those cheesy sculpture things people put into their tanks?

Dead coral is live rock or rock that can be turned into live rock.... Hope this helps you...

If it is a large piece, especially in relation to what you already have in your tank, you might want to cure it outside of your tank before adding it

be carefull if it came from a FO tank, as they might have used copper and the rock could still have some. but other than that it will become live rock soon enough. i used some as base rock in my tank. what little parts of it can get some light have turned purple and looks just like live rock.
