ok here is my question.

can i run a sump for a jbj nano? i am running into problems with stuff making it into the bottom chamber in the back that i cant see cause of placement.... if i can use a sump what size would i need... i was thinking something around the 5 gallon range obviously custom made cause of size.

any help would be great thanks

if you plan to drill it and add a sump...then i would reccommend removing the back false wall...it will give you more real estate..
you can add a overflow box or just a elbow on the bulkhead to regulate water level...
and the sump....well...depends on the room inside your stand...some people custom make one and some use the stock one...take your measurements...then figure out ATO reservior..phosban reactor ..plumbing placements and see how big of a sump you can go for...might be able to fit a 10g...but usually not unless the stand is custom made ...you can contact custom king to build a sump...shouldnt be much as its small and you can do 1/4" acrylic plus a few baffles..

if your into diy then build a stand
i am cycling a 30g cube at the moment...and the dimensions are simliar to a nanocube...but built the stand myself ...made it alot taller for viewing and theres a second shelf to hold a frag tank..and the bottom is the sump...very basic...just 3 baffles...no fuge this time...my phosban will remove the phosphates alot faster ..
theres alot of way to doing it...

thanks auto
but removing the back is out of the question plus the 3 3/4" isnt a huge gain in room lol. i am using the stock stand and limited to space.... just wondering if it was possible and if soooo what size sump? basically what is sump and tank ratio cause i have access to acrylic and can make my own. just tired of the not seeing the back part of it lol......

yep...as much as you can fit in the stand...maybe 1/2" smaller so you got some room to maneuver...

i guess you can use the whole filtration area as your overflow....haha
then you can run a large pump

the only thing i see so far with such a big overflow is the water noise...you'll have to dial close the ball valve on the drain alot so the water level in the overflow wont be too low ...or else you'll hear water splashing down into the overflow section...if you run a high gph pump then there might be too high flow going throught the sump..
nyreefnoob had a drilled nanocube before..see what he has to say about it.....but he took out the false wall..

I designed a sump for my nano-cube 29.

Pulling the false wall isn't too difficult

I've personally used glass-holes.com's overflow boxes, and love them!

And here was my sump design to fit in the small stand (drawn by glass holes). This is for a nanocube with a tunze 9005, so the dims may have to be modded. I wanted a full frontal fuge for viewing pleasure :)

thanks for the replies and layouts
today i am taking a few measurments and going to take a few pics of the back so i can then see what i can do. i think i will just use acrylic and silicone to blockoff the unused sections and plumb from the false wall... my false wall has a moulded lip so tahing that apart and cutting isn't gonna happen lol... well atleast i know it can be done and i was doing something that is a waste of time just make life and reef keeping easier

thanks tons
