Do you guys run a skimmer on a full time basis or half day basis? in the summer to reduce heat, i ran it on a reverse light cycle basis, but now that its a little cooler i am running it full time.

Does any see any draw backs to this method? Am i skimming too much as half my tank is LPS and the other half is SPS and zoos. i just dont want to skim too much out of the water where there is nothing left. I also noticed somewhat of a shock to the LPS as they were not opening as much after i changed the schedule to full time. Could this be from the increased aeration of the water from the skimmer?

doesnt matter for what kind of tank, the more you skimm the better! it doesnt matter if its a sotfy, lps or sps tank. they all need good skimming. so if your skimmer skimms as long as its on then keep it on full time.
I only dont have a skimmer on my tank bec. there is no room in my sump for one, if i had room i would put one in.

What skimmer are you running?

There is no drawback to powerful skimming....even in an LPS and softie tank. You can feed corals more and have excess waste removed by the skimmer.

Are alot of bubbles being introduced into the tank from the skimmer or is the extra flow from the skimmer coming into the tank. This may cause LPS not to fully open otherwise they wouldn't be removing anything that should keep LPS from opening.
