Hi,

I transferred a 65 Gallon Reef into a 120 at the end of August. I had 3 CoCo Worms. The first one came out about a week after the transplant.
The second appeared about 5 weeks later. The 3rd has yet to show itself.

How can you tell if they are still alive? How long should I wait it out? (Of course the tube looks cool on the reef, head or not)---but I would like to know for sure.

thanks,
JJ

PS Hoptical Illusion is a really , really good Brew---its kind of like Anchor Steam........

2 weeks. if u dont see any featherhead, its probabaly empty.
cocoworms dont usually live long.

I have had my cocoworm for abour 3-4 years:birthday:

try looking at night sometimes there are fish that pick at it during the day and they stop coming out :irked:

Yeah---Ive had one for over a year. The other 2 for about 5 months. One is showing, the other still isnt.

I know that feather dusters sometimes leave their tubes and start another one fresh elsewhere in the tank. Do Cocos do this as well?

A quick smell test sometimes works.

A foul smell, undescribably nasty, will indicate decaying worm stuff. No nasty smell is indicative of either a live worm -or- fully decomposed/scavanged corpse.

From what remember, these worms will stay inside in scenarios where they shed the crown of feathers and need to regrow it, water parameter stress, environmental changes, something picking at the feathers or an unfortunate death.
