beward of redbugs at the swap, somehow i managed to find the redbugs early, so far i only see one out of the numerous amounts there might be in my tank, i checked out one of my corals, and it has two to three tiny yellow speckes walking around my acro, thank god i found out during the early point. I kepted my tank inverts free except for clams just so i can dose interceptor. Please take a closer look at your acros if you see them, please dose.

will the red bugs hurt LPS or softies- or only SPS? I picked up a couple 'frags of frags' from Mike when I bought some tiny frags of Xenia- they seem to actually be doing well in my tank (brown in color- but my light isn't all that strong). I don't actually care too much about what happens to them, since they are more of an experiment to see if SPS can keep in my lighting, but my LPS and softies now...don't want anything to happen to them!

I found both redbugs and flatworms on my corals from the swap. I did a interceptor water bath for all the SPS I got (including the grab bag), and a flatworm bath for everything! All zoanthids also got a fresh water dip, but I found no nudies.

I had the pest removal station at the swap, but only two people asked me to check their corals for them, :scratchch  :headache: , both persons new frags had flatworms on them when I checked. So the infectivity rate was 100%, granted the sample was small.

Shaun,

Did you find any pests on the RM grab bag items?
NO! but that doesn't rule out the possibility of eggs (interceptor treatment doesn't seem to affect them). Since I had to do the interceptor treatment anyway, I just did it on all the SPS I got.

The problem for me is that I may now have introduced redbug eggs to my tank because of the infected SPS. So I am trying to decide if I should do an interceptor treatment on my whole tank this weekend. I began removing all my crabs to my 30 gallon tank in preparation.

aren't you gonna make sure you have redbug before you gonna treat the tank?

I hope reefer madness frags did not have red bugs on them.

I doubt it.

Before I put mine in I placed each frag in a shallow white bowl and looked at them,
I saw no bugs on them.

I did dose a couple of pieces I got from people at the swap. I nuked them using Shauns preferred method of 10,000 x the normal dosage for 10 minutes.
In about 10 ounces of water I used the amount needed to dose a thirty gallon tank.
safe to say any bugs were toast the second they hit the water :sgrin:

Sorry Dave, they must have had their camoflage on at the time. I should fire myself :dead1: then, for a dereliction of duty.

Yes, but if there are only a few eggs, leading to a few redbugs present, I would not be able to see them until they multiply to huge numbers. Then I would have to do the 3x interceptor treatment over 3 weeks. If I do it now, then I would probably only have dose once to kill the newly hatched eggs, preventing further eggs to be layed.

Damn.. I better look very close tonight if I see any red bugs.. If the grab bags have red bugs, then I think the whoole community of manhattan reef is infected.. This is not good at allll.....

I'm sure that they are OK. RM treats their incoming corals for redbugs, but no one can garantee that there are no eggs attached to the rock/SPS. It's the eggs that are the problem with becoming re-infected.

Tom, do me and everyone a big favor, use your macro lens and shoot each sps frag that you got from the swap. the bugs will show up under that magnification easily, it's the best way to check for bugs.
