I just got a Tunze osmolator today for christmas and I can't figure out how to get it working properly. I got all of the wires and cables plugging in and the two brackets are in place, but whenever I plug it in, it doesn't fill the water high enough. I even adjusted the laser eye float all the way to the top of the bracket and it still won't fill the tank up high enough. What am I doing wrong?

The pump is not meant to run continuously. It automatically cuts off so as no to burn out. By no means should you expect it to fill up any where near 4" of volume. The idea is that the sensor eye picks up the need for water as soon as contact breaks and fills up increments.

So is it supposed to be like that and how do I fix it?

Yes it's supposed to be like that and no you don't have to fix it.

The pump will always only run for a minute. There is no reason that it should have to run any longer.

Yes, but at the same time it's not going to pump a 100 gallons of water. It's a tiny pump.

As soon as contact between the laser eye and the water break, the pump will turn on and pump the little bit off water that is needed to make contact again.

I have been using my osmolator for about four years with no problem.

How do you have yours set up exactly?

There are two sensors: The electronic eye top-off sensor which as TimberTDI mentioned will start the pump from your freshwater reservoir when the water level in your sump drops below the electronic eye and the high water cutoff float valve which will turn off the pump when the water level in your sump exceeds the high water cutoff level.

You should place the top-off sensor at your operating sump level not 4" above that level if I understand you correctly. The pump will also turn off if there is no water in your reservoir so it doesn't burn out.

Could you post some pics?

I took some pics of the setup. It was kinda hard because it was at a weird angle but its better than nothing.

Heres the pump in the bucket (btw the float valve in there is just used when I take the bucket out to fill it up.)

Looks good.

What's the debris in the top off bucket about?

Where do you have the black top off hose placed? Make sure that you do not have it submerged where a back siphon can occur. The salt from back siphoning can damage the pump. Do a search here; I know Rich (jackson4657) had a problem with his.

Yea I got to clean out that bucket. I couldn't get the screws in the clamp for the hose so I just tied it around the return pipe so that water could still come out. It's above the water and towards the top of my sump so a back siphon would be very unlikely.

I don't think the pump is the problem. I think theres a problem with the laser eye thing. I tried to raise my water level so that it came in contact with the eye and then turned it on. It still said that my water level was low and added some water. Then I turned the valve to my return pump so the water level dropped alot, and it didn't add any water. Could there be a problem with the laser eye?

Ok now I'm getting really annoyed with this system. I moved the bracket over on the edge of the tank so it wasn't on the baffle and I added some water so that the water was making contact with the laser eye valve and then turned it on. Even though there water was in contact with the eye switch, the light came on (the one that said the water was low) and then added a little bit of water to the tank. Now like 8 hours later my water level drop like 2" (below the switch) and it still has yet to add any water. Do I have a faulty laser eye valve?
