What I did on my summer vacation

Hey Aaron I was just in Sydney a few days ago, I love it there. I went to the Sydney aquarium. I didn't think it was all that, in the reef department anyway. I like the rest of it though. I took some lovely pictures of Cairns on the Great barrier reef. Have you been up to the GBR?

Yeah, I actually had to live up in townsville just south of Cairns for a couple of months. I spent every weekend diving on the reef. I also lived in Brisbane and caught some nice copper bands while i was there for my friends tank. Very nice to be able to jump in the water with a couple of nets and pick out a couple of fish for the tank. kind of like going down to the fish shop and climbing in the tank.

Here a couple more shots, One is the first Anemone I ever bought. It is about seven or eight years old and spent and the first four years with only five standard flouros for light.
Not sure what kind of anemone it is, we used to call it a radianthus but i dont thing thats a current zoological name anymore.
the other two shots are a friends fish workroom (he runs a tank maintanence business) and a shot from the top down of a batch of baby clown fish - i posted some pictures of them just after they hatched a couple of months ago so this is them with a few months growth.

in the shot with the baby clowns what are the bio balls floating in the water for?

Not sure, they might be sitting over the overflow pipes to stop the more adventerous ones taking a trip into the sump

nice clowns, damn steve dont wanna raise them, but i think my true percs are starting to do it, i dont know but it looks like the mating dance and some rock scraping.

hey Spykes, If they end up spawing i could give you a hand to raise them if you want. keeping my fingers crossed

The other big incentive to going home is being able to collect all your own stuff, corals, fish etc. Not being able to go to the MR coral swap would be the only bummer.

Did you see any blue-ring octopus when you were in Australia? I heard that can be found in tide pools during low tide.

not that I want you to move, but if you can collect your own stuff who needs a coral swap? :lol:

Yikes hope not. They can kill you or drop you in your tracks.

Yeah, ive seen a few, Not on this trip but plenty of times when i was growing up. Especially in the rock pools around sydney harbour. They are really small and dont display the rings until you piss them off. Then th rings are the most radical electric blue.
