Refug question

I will be adding a 40gallon refugium to my 225 g reef tank in the next few weeks and was told to keep it above the sump, does that make sense? If so why? Also I have two return lines going ito my sump, so I was going to tap into it and run 25% of the voulme into my fuge and then dump it into the sump where it gets pulled back to the display.

Any input would be very helpfull this will be my first time with a fuge.

what would be good is to keep it above your display if you can.

That way detrius is less likely to end up in the refugium and turn into nitrates. Also the pods from the fuge will overflow into the display.

thanks but to put it above the display would be impossible, but I understand your reasoning. Thanks for your help. Anyone else?

put it this way anywhere you put it its going to help. mine is under the tank and i have it with chaeto and maangroves and 6"sand bed and live rock

my refuge sits about half way down from my display tank. i have cheato in refuge, live rock, hermits, and have 0 nitrates, but 0.5 phostrate, which was higher, but has been coming down by using phosban. my tank is also a 225
with a 20 gal refuge.
