I'm starting to set up my Solana tank, but I only have the tank itself. Where can I buy those clips that keep the glass up? I want to build a screen to prevent fish from jumping out and I plan to have it lay on top of those clips.

I also want to use those twisty nozzles that the setup comes with... unless I could just use my hydor deflector on the outflow. What do you guys think?

When I finally have to transfer my livestock, sand, and rock over, how should I do it? I plan to add more sand and live rock, but I will probably purchase from a local reefer. I was thinking that I could buy some live sand, add my sand and use all my current water and add some premixed saltwater and that should be fine. Will that be ok to prevent a cycle?

I will be setting one up very soon as well. I bought it from House of Fish in june and have been sitting on it for some time now. First off what clips are you talking about? Second I would use the hydor for the return because it spreads out the flow alot. I am going to mod mine to have 2 hydor flo's in it I just have to figure out the logistics and I need to gut the skimmer out and out the tunze in.

I plan on doing my switch over using live sand as well when I switched from my 29 to my 55 and from my 55 to my 24 pod I did it all in one day for the most part I just waited a day or so to move the fish to be safe. I would make sure any rock you add is cured and stays wet to avoid a cycle if you are traveling a long distance with it.

thanks for the reply chief. The clips i'm mentioned are the ones that come with the tank that hold the glass top up. Do you have a glass top with yours? They're just plastic clips that clips onto the class and jut out about 1.5cm.

since i'm moving from a 14g biocube to the solana, should I fill half of the tank with my old tank water and the rest with new saltwater? it'll be a huge "water change", but will it be alright?

Why not call Solana and see if you can purchase the clips directly from them?

Using one half new water shouldn't harm anything, just be sure to keep up with your water changes until the time you are ready to switch tanks and the parameters shouldn't be all that different from each other.

As Chief mentions, be sure to keep all of your rock as wet as possible (submerged is even better!) during the transition so that you have no die off on the rock.
Many of us believe that the 'live sand' (sold as such) isn't really all that 'alive' if it's in a plastic bag on a store shelf...If you have the time ..and an empty bucket, small extra heater and power head, you could start to cure the added sand now and have it ready by the time you switch tanks. Just add a cup of your current sand to the new sand to seed it and let it sit in the bucket for a couple of weeks.

You shouldn't have any issues with the switch but do keep in mind that ALL of the surfaces of a new tank (bacteria will eventually inhabit those surfaces) will 'cycle' to a small extend. Just be sure to keep a close eye on your parameters and react of you see any numbers start to increase (like ammonia :)). But you should be fine.
Best of luck with your upgrade! :)
..we want pics btw!
