Frank Pm them Back and tell them "No I don't deliver and you have to bring your own ladder, buckets and take it out of my tank with gloves and don't let anything fall or you will pay extra":biglaugh:.

I put pick up only in all my F/s threads and still get asked if I can deliver but what wil be will be. A few of those Pm's don't get answered.

i have a 250 watt sunpod for sale for 300. bought it from another member .i never used it..a guy from jersey asked me can i make it 200 to compensate for the gas. IM LIKE DAMN 100 BUCKS IN GAS!!!!thats why if its not something heavy i try to sell it on reefcentral.

Eric, you could have countered, why dont you pay me $400 and i will deliver it to you....

Frank, sometimes buyers do not think well when inquiring about things for sale. I for one have noticed this and it is just part of the deal i guess. If i can accomodate the buyer, i try to meet them halfway, but if the thing i am selling is heavy, i always say it is local pick up only, and if i get pms about delivery, i just ignore it....

this exactly what I want to air out
why is it part of the deal???

why should it be?

if you are selling a light that is half the price in a LFS, brand new,
why should you take off more money to compensate for gas???
that takes balls!

my selling days are over here at MR
ebay works fine reaches many many more people and no nonsense
it's really sad.

a vendor here at MR has the reflector I was selling (where I got it) for twice what I was selling mine for.
I got low balled , some got mad because I dont go their way.
So I ended the sale
I did get a very polite PM form a member that I have dealt with asking about and how much to ship
if it falls through it will be on ebay.
I got one this morning a repeat inquiry now offering to pick it up, with cash in hand.... like I'm going to take anything but cash, I guess now we should take checks credit cards and IOU's
so I guess the message got out
sad that we had to have 2 pages of this nonsense

While I feel strongly that the MR marketplace is an excellent resource to make this hobby more affordable and to help others free up some cash and storage space, I feel that some people try to take advantage of others. I wasn't looking to make a million bucks on my old stuff, and all my stuff were priced sensibly, with a genuine purpose to give someone else a decent deal, but I had numerous times where I felt that the buyer thought that he/she was doing me a huge favor.

About a month ago, I was giving away *free* bottled phyto and sps frags. All I asked in return was a positive feedback, which I still haven't received. No biggie and I'm fine w/ that. However, some people really rubbed me wrong way, the ones that stipulated (in a disengenous tone) to bring it over to them. Sorry if I sound arrogant, but was I also expected to pay them on top of that?

I'll gladly ship an item if the buyer pays for shipping, as I've done in the past. I've got the resources at work that makes it convenient for me to ship. For other sellers, shipping an item might also be a hassle and I feel that this also needs to be sensibly requested.

I'd suggest being upfront with payment terms and delivery.

Frank this is like what is going on in my thread just about. I hava a hook up for real deal snowflake clowns and have people who dont know what there talking about and for no reason at all posting things that have nothing to do with my post. Stating false facts thinkin they know something. Funny thing too is there both new members both joined in 2008

Frank why let it get you to the point you don't want to sell on MR.
You dealt with far more dumb people in your old job ;) I'd just ignore the silly requests. For all the lame pms and posts you might get I never had a bad experience selling here.

maybe that's why I have no patience left because with my job I HAD to deal with them
I guess as I get older I grow less and less tolerant of ignorance and arrogance.

John I think the biggest thing Frank is having a problem w/ along with myself with is topic hell with this board is that members like me you Frank and others that have been here for so long basically know each other one way or another, and when we used to sell things to each other it was 1,2,3 we post we want it we pick it up check out the tank shhot the breeeze and give a handshake and enjoy the process. Nowadays its alot diffrent. Hagginling the prices when there good to start expecting freebies expecting delivery having people new to the hobby thinking they know everything commenting on things they think they know and then having a attitude when you tell them the truth because they know you dont. The community was once alot closer knit then compared to now. And its not a easy adjustment. I used to love coming on the board and posting but I get fed up with the nonsense now a days. Theres just 2 many IKE's lol. JMHO

I gotta comment on some of the generalizations in this thread. I have been a member for ab a year and have purchased some (alot if you ask my wife) corals and equipment. I have even sould 1 or 2 pieces of equip. My limited experience as a seller has been w/ great members so there has been no question on delivery or haggling on $. My purchases have always been 'pick-up' without requesting free shipping and result in:
1,2,3 we post we want it we pick it up check out the tank shhot the breeeze and give a handshake and enjoy the process.
not all new members play by their own rules, many of us are just happy to meet new people with the same interest (obsession?) in the hobby and understand that no matter how much reading a newbie may have done there is little to replace 15 years of experience. As for freebies - any gift is just that, a gift, not an entitlement and it says 'thanks' to the buyer 'please buy again'. I believe there are many good reefers and I look fwd to my next purchase. All that being said I am dreading selling my 54 corner with ALL the eq to run a reef.

Will let me just say one thing..... Its not all its some. But you dont see it from the older members of the board its always the newwer ones that EXPECT the freebies the delivery ect..... But im sorry if you think im refering to you and all the others that arent like that, because I dont mean it to come off that way and if I did Sorry to you and them. its meant towards the others that do do it. I wont lie fact is with me if im selling something and someone I know on the board wants it I usally give it to them for cheaper then I ask w/o them asking, mainly because I know there good people. It is GREAT to have new members to the board thats what it is here for, hell i chew down people also nothing wrong with asking but its the expecting that is wrong. I was selling my KZ S Revolution which was about $1200 shipped it works amazingly but I upgraded and wanted a external for the room in my sump. I wanted $700 for it if needed free shipping. I had someone tell me that once I use it, it loses 30% of it value lol. I told him Oh is that what the kelly blue book value is on the skimmer. Its crazy he offered me $400 I said thanks but no thanks Ill keep it I wouuld rather break it into pieces and throw it out then sell it for that price to him. People are ignorant and I just feel and notice (not generalizing you) but it seems to be the newer members that do it. Again not all of them alto of great newbie members on here w/ experience behind there belt and w/o much and alot of Mo moes lol ;)

We will have our share of knuckleheads because of our # of members and they seem to surface at the worst times - I guess an indication may be the reefer ratings or maybe even the lack of rating for a long time member. I know you are not directing your well thought comments to me but thanks anyway! Your participation and the participation of long time members is the reason I follow alot more than the F.S. threads. I agree with you wanting to toss your skimmer rather than take an insulting discount. I actually gave my 54 corner to my brother (he gave it back when I explained what a 'cycle' is) bec I was lowballed - the guy actually thought he was doing me a favor! I was being chiseled for $10.00(after a nice price reduction) so I said forget it - I feel your pain!
BTW ya got any sps? I need a $5 frag overnited for sat delivery, 10 am of course.
Ahhhhhhhhh!

Holy cow, I'm trying to give away two sweet Duncan colonies,FREE. Had two takers supposed to come pick them up.
"Could not get there", Had a party, decided to go to work" Can I come by another time" Will you hold for next week"
If anyone out there is not a flake, they are still available, before I decide to give them to aquarium adventure, probably charge me a fee.

Frank, I understand what you and some of the other people here are saying. And I have to say that 99.9% of the time I pick up and regardless of wether or not the item is as described I have never haggled. But on the other hand I have also paid for delivery when asked to even though said merchandise was shipped with another order that shipping had already been paid for. I did not argue, leave bad feed back, I just made a mental note not to purchase from this person again thats all. I'm not even holding a grudge :), just felt the person was a bit greedy and not necessarily a bad person.;)
On the other hand about a year ago a member was selling a coral that I very much desired to have, but I am limited in the distance that I can drive so I asked the seller if there was any chance that he would be willing to come to me. Well, he pm'd me back that he was willing to meet me 8/10 of the way for gas and toll reimbursement. To which I agreed and that beautiful coral is still in my tank and I got to meet a pretty cool youngman.;) Thank you Jason!
And then of course there have been many others that I wish I could travel to, but would not dare ask to even meet half way. I always first consult with my children to see if one of them would not mind driving me, but you know how children can be. They do have a life of their own after all.lol
So you see sometimes the reason people ask is not always because they are being sh!+ heads.;-)
