i don't have any hair algae on my rock- lots of red macro, and misc green macro and tons of coraline. I love the look of it- though I have trimmed most of it (besides the coraline that is) off.

Not for a SPS or soft coral dominating tank. I don't think people purposely grow algae in their main tank, unless you like the look of algae.

I agree the tank looks "natural", but as cali-reef stated, I don't think it fits in with a coral dominated tank. Even you have "trimmed" the algae. That's why many people have a separate refugium. A refugium full of TBS rock would, ummmm....rock!

I don't have a lot of experience growing hair algae, but the green stuff in the picture looks like hair algae to me

haha- you got me. I meant that I don't have a problem with hair algae-that small patch hasn't spread and isn't anywhere else in the tank (there really isn't anyplace for it to take root- unlike when it gets to be a problem on bare rock). I like to watch everything munch on it.

Its all a matter of taste- I actually totally prefer a TBS dominated 'natural' tank much more than the 'clean' look that is simply purple coraline rock and corals. I don't think you can say my rock isn't colorful! You can stare at it and notice new things coming out of the rock everyday.

As I said before- don't get TBS rock unless you like a tank like that!!! Get fully cured and scrubbed fiji instead. I personally would never get anything else- and I have to say that the shipping in water really got me interested in the 1st place- I wanted to have as much life as possible crawling all over the place and not dead and/or stinking!

i liKe things tHat move... i gUess thats why am not into SPS (never say neveR though)... there's something to be watcHed going with the natural-look... :smokin: always something new poPPing out each day. for me pests are a part of life... i've seen apartments with roaches and no maTTer how hard they try, they are still there :sgrin: i caN't see myself having a perfect tank if my house looKs like craP. i prefer it the otHer way around :yeah: ...but that's just me :approve:

Finally- someone who agrees with me!!! I enjoy tanks of LPS and softies more than SPS too- I just like the movement, makes it more interesting IMHO

After reading up on TBS rock for almost a year (yes, I had a looong planning stage since I knew i was moving...) I knew it was what I wanted!
