Yesterday I did a water change as I normally do in my 14 gallon biocube. Except this time I was using some gloves that I had just bought (my other ones ripped) and I had forgotten to rinse them off before using them in the tank.
About 5-10 minutes after the change my ocellaris became very listless. There were even times he would lay down completely on his side and I thought he was going to be a goner. about 2 hours after the water change my frogspawns and torch began to look affected by something, shriveling up completely. The other corals in the tank appeared okay. I added an insane amount of carbon in the back to absorb any problem chemicals in the tank.
This morning I woke up to find that my Xenia looks very very bad. My frogspawns and torch are back to normal as well as my ocellaris, and all the other corals are normal as well with the exception of the xenia. I did another water change this morning just to be on the safe side.

Will the Xenia be okay? When do I know that it needs to be removed from the tank because theres no chance of it coming back?
The gloves I used were the standard yellow dishwashing gloves that you get at any grocery store. I have used the same kind before with no problems. But, maybe some sort of factory chemical entered the system because I had forgot to rinse them before use.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

If it starts turning to mush, take it out.
I would change the carbon again (be sure to rinse it first in RO water) as it still contains whatever chemicals it may have absorbed.

Are you sure it was the gloves? Could there have been an issue with the water used for the water change? Was it the proper temp & salinity? Did it flow directly (and hard) onto the Xenia when you were adding it?

It's probably ,methyl Ethel keytone chloride or acetone and sometimes a light oil for removing gloves from molds, I would change water and carbon and even use a poly sponge to remove any residual.good luck ,I know the feeling when stuff ain't right with tank ,niether are you ...?

My assumption that it must have been something on the gloves. I did the water change as I always do, distilled water and oceanic sea salt. Mixed it the same way, added it in the tank the same way, and I have never had any issues with it. I always pour all the new water in the back chambers so I don't disturb anything in the tank.
Thanks for the help, I will change out the carbon asap.

I have some Phosban in the back chamber, should I replace that with fresh Phosban as well?

I noticed that some if the Xenia was browning, I went to go get it out and it just completely disintegrated in my fingers! Some of the Xenia on other parts of the rocks looks like it has not started to mush yet, so I think that maybe there may be some survival. I am going to do another water change again today.

Update:
The Xenia is recovering little by little now. I am pretty sure that the die off has stopped, but I am monitoring its condition just to be sure. I am just glad it was the Xenia rather than my torch or bubble corals this happened to. Everything else in the tank is thriving and my ocellaris is well. Thanks everyone for the help.
