I was wondering how high i should put my MH. They are 2 X 250W's. I will not be doing SPS. I would like to get the MH shimmering on the bottom of the tank too.

Does the fixture have a UV shield (splash guard)? You want to make sure that no water will splash on the hot bulbs, they will shatter if it does get wet while on and hot.

250w MH's over a 75g can easily be mounted 10" above the water to get a good light spread for coverage and be above the 'splash line', and still get the shimmer on the sandbed.

Yes there is a uv shield for the light.

I'd still be recommending 8"-10". Any closer and you might not get the spread to adequately illuminate the entire 4' tank.
