Or you could just go simple and get one of these...

http://www.eco-sphere.com/home.htm

They sell them at brookstone- I had one on my desk for a few years until the shrimp died- really f'ing cool- and you don't have to do anything to them. In fact- now that i'm thinking of them again maybe I need to get my old on 'recharged' (you can do that for less than buying a new one)... hmmmm... :)

My 16g isn't too bad- just 5-10% water changes weekly and my Remora skimmer running day and night. My ATO system takes care of that and my chiller and heater keep the temp fairly constant. Don't have a larger system to compare to though- wish I did though :)

Here's another small tank... on an aside I think I will be getting seamonkeys for my desk at work :)

i dunno man, my system ALK swings from 9DKH to all the way to 5DKH in 2-3 days. the CA goes down alot as well, trace minerals arent as much as a big tank, with a MH and two VHOs my evap is around 1qt a day? so SG might swing a bit, i am using kalk to keep up my alk and ca swings, but PH ends up to be 8.6 most of the day when MH is on, im guessing most -OH ions are out during the day, and at night more hydrogens are around, but etheir case if you want a fish in there bioload for my 20 gallon is higher then normal, and water changes are werid because my corals arent submerged all the way, swings because of a MH is more tremendous with a MH in such a small tank. sigh it needs husbandry skills lemme tell you that, my tank is very demanding.

yeah- my tank is all softies and LPS (small 'frags of frags' of acro). My water changes don't cause the water to go down too low. Trace minerals do get used up more quickly is seems- going to start adding a 2 part buffer soon...

Maybe- I know you can find small PC desk lamps. Instead of the bulbs they come with you can probably find an 18w PC 50/50 bulb to fit instead.
