I am currently using the coralife pro fixture with the ballasts they give you, I was wondering is there better ballasts that will save me some money on the electric bill lol

Bulbs are 250watt 14k pheonix DE

Mike so far I was leaning towards the galaxys I hear good things but first things first i am working on my insane monthly electric bill I know I know its not the cheapest thing to run but if I can cut down some is better than none

you know saving energy on the ballast is pretty much a moot point. There's no such thing as putting in a 50 watt ballast and expecting it to put out 250 watts worth of light. If you really want to save energy then go out and buy some LED lights.

I am not sure you are understanding the question but thank you for the input.

I understand using another form of lighting would be cheaper but my question is changing what I have would it help at all energy wise as well as proformance.

Actually I am understanding the question very well. The amount of energy used to convert the plug energy to be able to drive the bulbs is fairly low compared to how much it actually takes to drive the bulb period. You say bulbs plural, so I'll just assume 2 for the moment, the bulbs themselves take up 500 watts of juice whats an extra 10 or 20, or more realistically 2 or 3?

So like I was saying the real energy savings will come from switching to a lower energy requirement lighting source. Take a look at emmanuals "ugly" LED fixture according to his measurements it sucks up ~150 watts (?) and outputs like a 400 mh fixture.

Well i love my ice cap ballasts with the new lumen bright reflectors. 20K reeflux bulbs. That look 10 times better then the 14K phoenix and better par.

I had a Solaris on my 125 and didn't like the thing at all. Anyone want it?

I would look in to getting an ice cap 660 for some vho's
