Cleaning skimmer?

So besides emptying the skimmer's waste cup is it necessary to clean out the entire skimmer from time to time? I noticed build up of waste at the neck of the foam chamber right before it enters the cup, so I usually just scrape it off with a toothbrush.

Yes...clean the entire skimmer when you notice a decrease in skimmate productivity.
