Hello everyone. Tonight I got sting pretty bad from my saddleback anemone. Phil ("Devious") gave me a pair of clarkii clowns and when I put them in the tank the fish were exploring. One stopped by my GBTA and the other went by my saddleback anemone w/ saddleback clown and he decided to go in it. As soon as he touched it the anemone grabbed him like a piece of food. I stuck my hand in it to take the fish out so he could live and I was successful although he's kind of beat up now, he has noticeable sting marks on this body. Anemones have never bothered me, I always run happen to touch my Condi, GBTA and on occasions the Saddleback. I guess since I was trying to take out a possible prey from it it stung harder than ever. Here's the culprit:

....And here's my hand:

The little dots are probably every single tentacle that stung my hand, as you can see it's also on my fingernails! Anyone know what I can put on it? It's starting to sting more now. I'll take a pic of the poor clown tomorrow cuz my lights are off, even though I think he'll be fine minus the sting marks

Yeah I felt so bad for the little guy and the stupid clown that's in the anemone picked at his eye, hope no damage there. And now I really don't care about my hand, I just want to know if the fish will live. He's pretty damages, he has serious sting marks all over his body but he's swimming completely fine. For some reason he's trying to host my Gigas clam but does anyone know if he can make it? :(

If it continues to bother you - call the local Poison Contol number in the phonebook. They will walk you through what you should do. Some people are very sensitive to the actions of histamines. Best to call these folks as they WILL give you a contact number to call them back in the event you have a bad reaction & need to go to the hospital (the ER's frequently are clueless about stings like this and those Dr's there call the Poison people for instructions...).

Warm water soaks, alternating with vinegar soaks (about 20 minutes each) are helpful. Benadryl is great stuff, don't skimp..go get some if you don't have any in the house..7-11 probably has little 2 packs...

On your fingernails???? argh...

Do you have a sump you can put the clown in?

Phil :screama:

I agree with Kathy.. You will probably want to seperate the little guy over night until you have time to watch him adjust in the tank (maybe tomorrow night?).. I don't have a sump so I picked up a couple of those small breeder glass boxes that you hang on your tank and I use that in cases of emergencies.. I wish you luck buddy.. And definitely get at least the benadryl..

I'm not sensitive to anemones at all although I'm allergic to shellfish I always thought that had some relevance to it but I guess not because I always touch my other ones with no affect usually. This one just got me bad because I had my whole hand in it and I was forcing it to let go of the fish so I guess it got me as hard as it could. I took some Benadryl and I guess it's better, it just burns a little. But yeah I had sump but the way it's set up would not be good for a fish to live in because it has no compartments, just an open tank but he seems to be swimming fine in the display so I don't know...don't wanna lose him

Man if you were closer I'd offer to meet you and lend you the little seperator box in case you wanted to keep him in there over night.. Either way, you're welcome to it if you'd like. He should be alright, normally the first few hours are the toughest for the new fish because of the established territories, the dangerous anemones, etc.. I'm sure he learned that that specific anemone is a bad place for him, so he won't go back..

lol forti hahahaha I told you that You were gonna get stung one day

Not funny Ray, it hurt and it did even more after it stung me. You know I always put my hands in my other anemones and some times that one for something but I'm telling you this time I had my whole hand in the Saddleback anemone and it definitely stung me with all its force

Ouch! I'm glad that it worked out for you that your reaction wasn't any worse than what you experienced (which couldn't have been good), though I'd say the fish would have been a goner if it were me. :bablefish

I'd like to hope that that picture would offer a warning to others not to do such a thing...
