hi guys my question is how low do u guys take ur water down when u do ur water change. the reason i ask this is that i never let my corals touch the air so i stop a inch from them, some times i would like to take more water out, am i doing the right thing. i always take out 10g of water out of my 55g but i would like to change 15 . is the corals being in air for more than 5min a problem :irked:

Depend on what coral. If you let lps droop when fully extended as water level drops, the weight of the water w/i may tear the tissues thus not with most lps. On the other hand, certain sps are knowm to have ability to sustain life (produce slime to keep moist/avoid harmful rays of sun) when exposed to air during low tide.
Regardless, My recommendation will be try not to expose any corals to air.

What if if you drain 5 G more as you fill but from the opposite end or from sump.
