I am currently placing my 120 tech into the wall. The tank will sit between to walls that make up my living room and office. My question is do you think the humidity will destroy the walls. I plan on a 50 gl sump and 30-40gl fuge. I saw a solar powered exhuast fan at home depot and was considering hooking this up to a humidity controller(gardening supply) to keep the heat and humidity down. Does this sound like a good Idea? I am thinking it will save the chiller from running constant.

As long as you seal the area you cut with drywall I don't think you'll have a problem with humidity affecting the wall interiors. If you want to be extra safe you could put a clear coat of marine sealant on the walls above and below the tank, no one will see it and it will prevent the drywall from absorbing any stray moisture.

Greg,

You can also use a vapor barrier sheet they sell them at homedepot. It's just a plastic sheet. Staple it with stainless steel staples and you should be fine. I think the exhaust fan is also a good idea. I assume the sheetrock was already there and is not green board? This is what you really should have around the tank but sealing it should be fine. Having the exhaust fan close to the ground may be you best bet. I know they are always on the cieling in a bathroom but thats because the moisture is very hot. Plus close to the ground it will also exhaust fumes from your protien skimmer... Or better yet have an exhaust fan with duct work 80% ground 20% cieling flow.
Good luck man.

I am around this weekend so, you have my number...

If you can add the exhaust fan... I'd do it. For two reasons, humidity and heat. You can always leave the fan off but if you need it, it'll be there. We have a pretty big room where our in wall is in. So humidity isn't an issue. Though we did put a plastic sheet above the tank where it is in the wall, wrapped around the sheetrock/corner to avoid dust from the rock falling in the tank and water splashing up on the exposed sheetrock.
