So I've been toying with the idea of making a small nano tank with nothing more then zoas and maybe 1 small nano fish (and LR and LS). That being said, I also want to keep the filtration as small as possible, meaning no sump, canister, etc. So what would you guys suggest? I was thinking either a small biowheel filter or this Skilter filter (has a built in protien skimmer).

Otherwise, I'm open for other suggestions.

I would use an aqua clear. I think its the best hob filter. I would use the stock foam pad, chemi pure elite, and purigen. I used this combo of media in the back of my ap24 and params were great, all the time. I did 10%, weekly water changes. No problems.
Aqua clears also pump a hell of alot of water for their size, and pretty inexpensive.
I have also used this filter on every fresh water tank Ive had for the past 15 years.
Great little filter.

check out my pico thread It is running great with a aquaclear 50 my zoos are starting to double I even have a rainbow acan that is showing ne growth the puddle is only 2 gallons
I would have tried something like the one lazibonez is offering but my pico is in my bedroom so I didnt want to hear any noise (though I dont know if that one makes noise) the ac50 is the quietest from what I've been told

Hmm... come to realize that I have a brand new Aquaclear 50 that my fiance had bought with my 36 bow without realizing that I wanted to do a reef tank. I kept it just in case, and now maybe it will come in handy. Thanks guys, I will probably try that before spending money on something else. If all else fails, I may drop your way Alan :)

It used to be worse for me!
The collector cup would not only overflow, but will be knocked off and over-turned at the beginning. After reading the instructions for it (adjust airflow so the foam level goes right above the rim of collector cup) and adjusting the airflow as said, I'm now collecting only little bit and can do dumps only twice a week.
