Alot of times you can't tell if a fish has some thing until it work through it's system and that mayn't show for over a week or so. Also the fish is in a tank with alot of other fish and all it takes is one fish coming in to infect that fish and then you introduce it iinto your system. It maybe be stressful to keep a fish in quartine but it's better that then to introduce a fish that then comes down with some diseases into your main tank. Consider yourself lucky that you have never had a problem from not quartine fish alot of other people can't said that.

Jawward, why did you place the fish in your sump if you're not QTing it? Your sump looks emptier than many a QT tank I've seen. Seems it would be more stressful in there as well as allowing it to potentially pollute your water; the proverbial double negative.

I too have had trouble with QT'ing fish. What I have found were 2 problems:
1-Not enough flow in QT tank. which are good grounds for ich break outs
2-Size & emptiness of QT tank stresses fish.

I have lost more fish in QT, than just putting them in the main tank directly.

Well I QT fish, which have better tolerability in a QT, like my tangs for instance have been in QTs. And that pic you guys see is not in my sump, its in a 5 gallon tank where I was drip acclimating it. My sump has a fuge, which has ample space for him to swim until I turn the lights off in my main display tonight when I transfer him over.

First unless the fish is very large a small tank or tupperware container, 22gal or even 50gals, will do just fine. All you need is a small filter, power head or even air pump to give you water movement and water breakage. Just place some thing in the container, to give the fish a hiding space, and you should be fine. You don't need to place a light over the container and you don't need to fish that much. The fish should be fine for a week or more which a water change, also this will give the fish some down time as it's been moved around quite abit before it go to you.

You shouldn't get an ich outbreak because there isn't enough flow in the tank. The only way your going to get an ich outbreak is if the fish had ich before or the container had ich before you introduce the fish into it.

The point is to not place a fish into your main tank unless you are 100% sure it is fine and diseases free.

Yes, she was, but when I fed her in the sump a lil while ago, she wouldnt touch the food. I just turned off the lights in the main display and put her in. I see my Yellow Tang getting aggressive with her. After 5 minutes of flaring her tail, the tang seems to leave her alone. Hopefully all should be settled in the morning.

She seems to be dwelling in between the rocks. I am going to feed her a mixture of Angel Diet and Cyclop Eeze tonight, hopefully shes still eating!

I am keeping an eye on her from work (keep calling home to see how shes doing, lol). My momz just fed her a mixture of cyclopeeze, msysis and angel formula. She didnt touch the angel, but had a little bit of mysis with the cyclopseeze. I know she needs a lot of sponge in her diet. I am going to have to mince these cubes really fine and then put it in with the mysis. Damn, these fish eat better then me sometimes!

first off htat regal from fishtown is from bali. it was caught in the wild and the surviavl rates from bali are not good. marrone is correct in Q/T that fish. also they have copper in there water in fishtown do that is another reason to Q/T him. now if you dont oh well. i am giving my 2 cents to a fellow reefer.

regarding the diet . if you go to fishtwon and ask they have what they call Angel diet food. this is not angel formula dont get confused its a huge bag that has food processed with sponge that are great for angels and will be great for him. also you might want to add garlic extreme. this will help bring things out of this fish in ways that are better for him. I have learned that this is a fact regarding angels. i have my schribbed and it helped him fight infection.

regals are funny like that. they are beauties but they will have to wait and see keep this post going and lets find out how you are doing with him

I might be wrong but dont the regals from Bali have blueish gray bellies???

I cant tell from the pictures. if the fish has a yellow orrange belly he or she is from either the red sea or the indian ocean.

Its not gray, nypdfroggi, it looks exactly like yours (pic as your avatar). I will upload pics tomorrow, I have pics of it getting her mouth cleaned out by my cleaner shrimp. Its so hot how the shrimp goes for a ride on the angel, and he cleans her up real good. I saw her eating the angel formula today. Mostly however, she's been nipping on the rocks, is that a good thing?

Give the fish a chance to settle it before worring about it eating. Consistly feeding it to get it to eat will only cause more stress to the fish. As whether it comes from Bali, Red Sea or IO it still a hard fish to keep and the survial rate isn't good. Even if the fish is eating most don't make it with some dying within a week others last a month of two.
