Lighting a tank w/cross brace?

How do MR people light their tanks with a cross brace in the middle?
Does everyone resort to getting 2 sets of lights?
What are my options besides getting a tank without one?

Replace the center brace with a piece of acrylic if you dont want to get two lights. How bigs the tank?

I am just getting to this problem myself. I have a 36G Bow and i'm kind of reluctant to chop out the centre brace in case i distroy the tank. I kind of think 2 MH's in my living room would be too bright for my wife to bear.

Better IMO - don't cut the tank and put in acrylic unless you want to change waking up to a flood.

If you replace the black plastic brace with clear plexi, doesnt the UV from the lights destroy the plexi eventually? = flooded living room. The brace on my tank is extremely flimsy though. I am going to fire up my lights in the next week or so and see how bad the shadow is. hopefully its not too bad

Actually, on my tank, the brighter the light, the darker the shadow came out in the tank. :banghead:

Hmmmm Andres(DRZL) has the center brace replace with acrylic and his tank is going strong. It works for him, that where I got the idea.

Personally I lit my 65g up with 2 x 250watters. No shadow anywhere
