Sand that has been sitting for awhile

I have a 20gal tub filled with live sand ( should be dead now) in salt water for two years now. It does not emmit a foul smell at all. It actually smells normal.

Can I use this sand in a new setup or not even risk it and throw it out.

Personally, i would toss it. God knows whats been building up in there. Sand is cheap.

If the tank is 200g+ thats a different story

ok, i thought it would be ok cause its about 100lbs in there,and the sand was clean with when i sifted through it.

it's funny how you see for sale live sand in a bag for sale in these local LF store. whats up with those? why dont those go bad?

I would guess that your sand is no worse than what sits in the bags in a store. Rinse it and use it. You can test it by throwing in a few hermits before you put in anything else.

Well I am not gonna use all of it. I assume it's like 100 lbs cause I can't lift the thing easly. PM me tomorrow, I will hook you up.

give it a thorough rinsing, keep rinsing the sand till the water runs clear and you should be g2g

Ok so I stirred up the san. It has a funny smell to it when I get down half way in the bin. Now I am thinking it's really not worth it cause I would be do alot of rinsing.
