Chiller size question

I know it would over over over kill but heres the question. I have a 1 hp chiller at my house from a 280 gal tank i had. I have a 105 gal reef tank. Would i use the same amount of electric using a 1HP instead of a 1/3 HP since the 1 HP wouldnt be running as long? I think i know the answer but just interested what other think.

I think that the amps and voltage used on startup would make the biggest difference so the 1 hp would use more juice then a 1/4 hp chiller.

Thats what i thought i ran the tank last summer without one and the tank hit 86 of a high on the hot days with the central air on. Trying to avoid that even froze 2 liter bottle and floated them in the sump but only would bring the tank dowb .5 degree when the lights were on.

get some fans they work wonders. I have 2 clip on fans blowing the heat from MH's. Keeps my tank at bout 80-82. my chiller rarely goes on now.

In theory, yes.
As a matter of fact, when chillers are extremely oversized, caution for temp drop too quickly is a concern.
