hi all,

i have a remora skimmer that's been in use since december 2008. it had been skimming just fine until a week or two ago. it used to take a week or so for the collection cup to fill up. when i would clean it, the cup would be filthy. now, the cup fills up about twice a day with no real signs of any waste. anyone know what's going on and how i can fix the problem?

thanks,
steve

If its been skimming fine and you have not changed anything. I doubt it is the hieght of the cup that is the problem. Try cleaning the water output throuhg that little white screw on top of the elbow where the water enters the skimmer. Also clean your pump impeller.
Its probably not a strong enought water stream to work effectivly

Another possibility is if you've added anything to the water lately. A lot of "stress coat" type products cause this if they have any additives in them for slime coats for the fish.

Tagging along......

I never had any luck with this type of skimmer which is the reason I stopped using it and bought a different type and brand(recirculating).
The skimmate looked like green tea and that's when it did work .
I honestly think it isn't a good skimmer but that's just my opinion.

I know that they have redesigned the internal baffles, not sure how long ago they did that. I've been getting a thick green sludge out of mine. But they could use a better method of adjusting the cup height, no doubt about it.
