Hey all my first post on MR I usually post on njreefers.

about 4 months ago I upgraded my 54gallon to a 90 gallon with 30 gallon refuge. The tank has been running great except a few acro and birds nest frags I had bleeched out and died. I have alot of monti that is growing good. below are my specs and parameter

90 gallon with 30 gallon sump with refugium
asm g1x skimmer
aquatinics 2 400 watt 14k metal halide with 2 t'5's 1 tru blue 1 actinic

corals inclue
GSP/RTA/ purple monti, yellow monti
about 80lbs live rock
30 lbs live sand
yellow tank
hippo tang
2 percs

parameters
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
ammonia 0
ph 8.7
alk 7.5 tested with salifert new test kit
calcium 620-650 tested with new salfiert test kit

Any advise would help as to why my alk is low and my calcium is high along with ph being 8.7

Are you dosing calcium? I had a similar problem just get a buffer to raise your alkalinity. This will raise your alk and lower your calcium. Also test your magnesium this could be part of the problem also.

Start doing daily water changes for week or so (15g a day). The PH and CAL will slowly decrease.

Bleaching and the acro dying is probably a placement issue. Those lights are crazy strong for a standard 90g tank. put the acro at the very bottom and the birdsnest in the middle.

ps: never use purple up or crap like that. Stick with just a 2part additive. the coraline will come.
