I still think if you don't plan to keep hard coral, just go out and buy a 500 to 700 dollars light fixture of 500W is way over kill, and unnecessary.

500w would be necessary if you have a tank that is very deep like around 30" even if you want to keep soft corals, otherwise you would have to keep them at the way top if you only had 250w lights.
