Hi guys,
i found a small puddle of water under my stand... and i found a pinhole sized leak between the silicone seams between the side and back piece of glass on the right bottom side of the tank. Its a 120 (4x2x2), I kneaded a piece of aquamend epoxy and placed that on the leak temporarily.

Question:

1) Do you think that will be enough and will this pinhole leak cause any greater problems? Like completely BUST?

2) And ultimately will I need to replace the tank or take it down to resilicone?

thank you for your input.

God, I had a feeling I had to replace the tank... ahh jeez. 99% of all the mojanos and aiptasia are finally gone from the filefish I picked up from Dom lol. Great. Now I can reaquascape and remove every green mushroom from my tank.

I would not delay in emptying your tank. That pinhole leak could lead to a seam split in a hurry I am speaking from experience. Even temporarily using Rubbermaid containers would be better than leaving your livestock and water in the leaking tank.

I've seen this once before. It's actually caused by some kind of burrowing worm. The owner had Jason from Greenwich take a look at it and they ended up using the epoxy with a thin paper clip to push the epoxy through and fill the hole and the repair held. If it's similiar, you should not be getting a puddle but more of a wet wood area from a small drip. If you have a puddle, it could be a seam failure.

hi warren, I see the pinhole leak from the silicone between the back pane and side pane of glass.

I can see pinhole water droplets fall from the hole in the glass, the tiny drips soaked the stand and start going on the floor thats when i noticed something was wrong

That sounds like what the other guy had exactly. Bet you never would have thought that a worm can do that!
Now that i think about it, he didn't use a paper clip, if I recall, he just kept pushing the epoxy against the seam and could see the epoxy slowly fill the pin hole. Why don't you try this since you have epoxy on it now anyway?

thank you warren, I used a flat head screw driver to push the epoxy down on the seam. I hope it will hold until i buy a new tank... :(

If it is the epoxy that you use to mount frags that you are talking about, they are not waterproof. I tried to seal a leaky bulkhead with that in the past and the water just kept zipping through. Eventually, the leak stopped by the salt creep I guess but it took a few months.

if there's pressure against it before it's dried, no it will not seal. i have used it to "temporary" seal a seam in my sprinker pipe with the water shut off so no pressure on it. that was a couple of years ago, still holding up, no leak. therefore i haven't cut the pipe and make any repair to it.

If this is the case, he has to empty the tank to do the repair and let it cure. Then, the decision is easy. GET A NEW TANK.
