What ro/di unit would you guys recommend for nyc tap water? Will 4 stage be sufficient or 5 stage? What gpd would be best?

Jason

I got my 5 stage from ebay for around $100 3 years ago. I think the more the stages the more it can filter. Usually the first 3 stages are prefilters that just filter out larger particles before going thru the membrane. But basically, the RO membrane and DI unit does the job on lowering all impurities. Also, get an inline tds member so u ll know when to change out the filters.

There are some vendors here who specialize in rodi at great price and can give u better recommendation and support. GL.

Jason,

At most in NYC all you'll need is a 4 stage - those should be Sediment filter, carbon block chlorine guzzler, the RO Membrane and a DI polishing cartridge.

www.buckeyefieldsupply has great prices on the units - as an add on, I recommend the Auto shut off, inline TDS meter and a float switch. This is all you'll really need.

Check out their value series under reef.

Thanks, I will look into them (BFS), it doesnt matter between the value series and the others right? There are so many vendors of ro/di its so hard to choose, they have brands like Kent that go for upwards of 250 and they have others in the 100-150 range, I dont really know the difference.

No need to pay too much for it..you should be able to find one in the 100-150 price range that is a quality unit. Also a good idea to keep your eye on the For Sale Forum as well as post on the 'Want to Buy' forum :)

You'd asked how many GPD you'd need - what size is your tank?
