I've been doing some reading and have found that the stock venturi on the ASM's are garbage, I'm not really that surprised.....anyone who's ever looked at one of them would understand why

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement venturi that would be of better quality or where I could have one made?

I had a look at the mazzei injectors already and while I'd gladly throw down the cash for a 1" it's gonna be to long for me.

I'm using the sedra and I'm just setting up everything for the first time, it's a 75g. I've already drilled out the inlet as far as I can, done the recirc mod, and I did the mesh mod today(holy crap what a difference with that). I just wanted to get all possible out of this skimmer to prevent me form spending the money on a new MSX Extreme 200.

I tried making my own veturi today out of stuff I already had around....if I had another sedra I would have done a side by side comparison but with switching back and fourth I'm pretty sure mine pulled more air.....I just didn't have much confidense in it, wish a had a vaccume meter. Guess I'll run the stock one for now.

there is a thin line between air and water ratio a skimmer and pump can handle, to much air and it doesnt work correctly, ive tried alot of stuff on sedra skimmers and that link i posted is the best one

I've settled for what it can do.....I'd like to see more but I've done everything in that link aside from capping the end to reduce it to 1/2" because it's recirc. I ground down a piece of 1/2" pvc and slid it into the inlet side part way(there is already a short piece of 3/4" in there that joins witht he skimmer) to try and restrict the flow a bit and achieve the same thing but it worked like poop and I got even less air pull.

Just ha d an idea after I posted that....the stem is already drilled out as far as it will go but I have some threaded 3/8" fittings off an RO system. What if I removed the stem entirely, drilled it out, tapped it, srcewed in the fitting and ground down what was protruding inside the venturi? The hole would be almost 1/4". Also if part of the line is left sticking out a bit inside the center of the venturi and cut/ground at a 45 or 90 degree angle and facing away or into from flow would it up the suction as the current passes over it?

Wish I had a spare venturi kicking around to try it out....

buy a bigger skimmer is next option, your only going to get so much out of it and as stated you make air intake too much and it doesnt equal out to water pull and ends up being to much air to water raito in a un-balanced situation

Eh I like to experiment. I'll be upgrading to an MSX/octopus extreme 200 down the road but I can't spend much more on the tank for a while.....just getting it set up and my Vortech arrived today so that was a good chunk spent. I'll be picking up a controller before a new skimmer though....to much crap to deal with manually, haha.

Besides "the only stupid question's are the one's not asked"....miright?

I'll see if I can find a venturi somewhere that I can play around with....almost thinkin about ordering a couple pieces of solid 1" acylic rod and trying some differnt things.

i had the same skimmer the stock pump was garbage imo... so i brought a mag7 and a venturi fittings for it.. i actually ordered 2 fittings just incase ... you can find a used mag 7 for like 35-40 bucks here on the forums... and if u want the extra venturi fitting for the mag pump ill take 10 bucks... i paid 20 with shipping and all... good luck... now i have the same set up but a different skimmer.... in the beginning it was hard to dial it in .. i put a ball valve at the end of one of the recirulating lines and it works great for me... good luck!
