I was wondering if on the drain of an ETSS skimmer I can use a 90 degree elbow as pictured here http://www.tropicalfishstore.com/images/skimmerreefdevil.jpg

however my question is how high up can the pvc go without effecting the skimmers performance... the reason I am asking is because the water in my sump usually sits around 8 inches high and I know if the drain sit in or below the water level I will have issues...

All advice is Greatly Appreciated!

TIA Eddie

the higher you go , the more back pressure you're putting on the 'return' water, will the 90 degree fitting be moveable?,so you can angle it just above water level,...are you using a sponge to stop micro bubbles from entering sump? do you have a valve on it? is the water level in the sump 'fairly' constant, or does it vary alot between top-offs?

well my sump usually varies between 6-8 inches. yes i can make the 90 degrees moveable if need be. yes it has a valve. it varies between 6-8inches. hence im wondering if i put a 90 degree up to 8inches will it be affected.. im thinking that the pvc cannot be higher then the actual black box on the skimmer. so the most i would prolly have to play with in total would be 6inches...
