Very nice SPS growth and it?s probably too late but you can increase flow with a sand bed if you go with a wave box.



I am bare bottom with a wave box but I did try putting a cup of sand in the tank and it didn't spill out a bit.

how do you like the wavebox? i was gonna get it but i heard it can weaken the tank and shorten its life... ive seen pics of it in action and it looks really cool.

my problem is that my sand is too too fine and itstill causes a problem just with my returns hit the cross current of the power heads (tunze at very low speeds) cause a sand storm. plus not to discourge anyone with the wave box but ive been doing some research on the wave box and found out that if your tanks is not kind of long,(i think it was about 60"inches minimum) the blast from the box can damage your seals on the tanks do to excessive pressure over a semi long period of time.

Love it, all the LPS and the SPS polyps "waves" from side to side.

I am not so sure about the weakening the tank theory, I think a high and fixed flow from a penductor or a 3,000gph Tunze will put more pressure on the pane of glass it is pointed at. I had it for more then 7 months now and I have not notice any ill effects on the tank seams.

My tank is 48? long, which is the minimum Tunze said it will work in. Wave box is basically a Tunze 6100 (or 6200, not sure) in a box set to pulse at a very short intervals, the blast time from it is a lot shorter than any other Tunze controller can simulate. Like I said above, the short blast from the wave box is a lot less forceful than a constant Tunze so the whole blasting theory does not fly. The shifting of water from one side of the tank to other does place little more pressure on the end with the higher water level, but the overall gain is insignificant. Try this experiment: Get a large KFC chicken bucket, fill it almost full but not full, hold and move the bucket side to side in a fast motion with the palm of your hands holding the walls of the paper bucket. You should feel a little increase in pressure but not enough to break the bucket, most of the pressure force is being directed upward, at the crest of the wave.



I have a super heavy duty tank built in Canada with thick eurobracing, this maybe the reason it has not burst at the seams yet, (knock on wood)..

Fianlly i'm done. Will never attemp this type of change again in the future. it only took me 18 hours to complete this Damn job. I started at 8pm and finished shift at 7:30 am. then slept for 4 hours and hit it again at 11:30 and finish the whole job at 6:00om. will post pics before the night is over

Thanks. i like the way the tank looks like with the white bottom. StingNYC Quote "I think the white starboard also makes the the tank look brighter". Dude i'm so glad i spoke to him before i chose the color of the starboard because my tank looks bright as hell, i was going with a different color. i wish i could keep it looking white but the coraline will take over in a jiffy.
