Hey guys,

Recently acquired a 90g with corner overflow. I'm going to be using the tank as a turtle tank and was wondering if I could remove the corner overflow safely.

I would remove the overflow and just cap off the bulk heads.

My only concern is if the bottom of the tank will BREAK without the overflow in place.

My train of thought is that the overflow box is somehow allowing for there to be less pressure on the bulkhead area of the glass. LMK.

I doubt it but Ive never personally removed one but I have seen plenty of drilled tanks(bottom drain) with out any "cover" and no problems.

After removing the overflow box you could silcone a square or rectangle plate of glass right over the existing holes. Make sure the glass that you use is at least the same thickness or thicker than the factory bottom glass. The new plate should extend 1"-2" passed the outside of your drain and return holes. I have done this before and seen it done by others as well with no problems. No need for plugged bulkheads.

Kris, I've chipped tanks using razor blades to separate the panes of tanks. I switched to a small guitar wire. I wrap the ends around a couple of pieces of wood so you have a handle.

I do agree with the silicone and a piece of glass fix. easy and quick.

Hey Kris, if i were you i would maybe ask around first if anyone is willing to trade your reef ready 90 with a regular 90 gallon... that might save you some trouble... i don't know how quickly you need to do this project but it might be worth a try...
