today at school (kingsborough) i saw a new fish in the saltwater tanks a butterfly fish. i asked the girl that was cleaning the tanks, "when did you get that fish?" she says," oh one of the biolgy prof. set traps in the water and caught it" i was stun and excite, she says that the gulf stream brings it into these areas. Can this be true, butterfly fish in our oceans?

yes, it's true.

there are a ton of tropical fish that get swept up to us each year.
they die in the winter though.

if i lived in an area with coral reefs, i dont think that coral reef would be in the ocean anymore. it would be in my custom designed coral reef house. hehe J/K but that would be insane. scuba diving in your own house. hehe

We do have some butterfly during Aug-sept. I think they are swept by current. You can check LIRA, they do have annual collecting trip to Long Island shore.

holy crap! your school got a reef tank?? now i really hate my school.

i wish my school had a reef tank when i went i would of gotten into this alot sooner... it would of caught my eye and i would of started one up a long time ago

haha it not the greatest but it keeps me entertain. but they keep all their tank with regular salt water from the sea and the fishes seem fine. the water is non treated its straight from the ocean. i was thinking about using ocean water too
