Something happened overnight...I did a water change yesterday and the only thing I know I did out of the ordinary was take out the bag of purigen in the return chamber bc it had gone it's course...It was red and washing it with R/O didn't help much as it had in the past. I had a funny feeling about the tank and when I woke up took a look...first thing I noticed was the digital therm said 24.7F...WTF?! I felt the water and yea not below freezing or cold...corals are all closed up...cleaner shrimp is dead...all I can really assess...have two important major meetings at work and I couldn't do much...arghh...the fish look ok, I'm just really freaking out, on a bus, helpless. Any idea on something that couldve affected the therm and send everything into disarray? :(

Did you put the Purigen back into the tank after rinsing it?

The temp is obviously incorrect (no ice right?). Is an internal thermometer or simply a probe type?
Are your corals usually open 1st thing in the morning?
Cleaner could be a molt maybe, or a coincidence?

i didnt put the purigen back..i tossed it... its one of those probe on a wire thermometers...lights are out so corals arent open, but my neon green palau nepthea is like the size of a golfball as opposed to all spread out.

You probably push the switch on the temp probe to the C as opposed to the F. 24.7C = 76.5F.

Are you sure that your cleaner shrimp is dead or did it just molt? It's very common for a shrimp to molt after a water change.

It's better to do an assessment of the tank when the lights are back on, that way you can see if the coral are fully opening.

You probably want to check you levels, SG, Ph, Alk & Cal.

Don't worry about the Nepthea either - that is quite normal before they shed, sometimes it can be days before they spread out again.

Good call on the temp Mike - I'm sure you are correct. It was a chilly night last night so his temp could be down a bit, but the lights will warm the tank back up.

Go to your meetings, everything will probably be just fine when you get back home :)

LoL is was def F, thats what i checked...especially since i just came back from London and Paris my world is upside down in metrics. I'm hoping everything is OK... I threw a bubbler in there real quick before I left (prob just to make me feel better) and transferred my acans to my pico...

Maybe the temp probe is just toast then, cause if you had no ice in the tank, then I'm pretty sure it was wrong ;)

Bubbler - not a bad idea though cold water holds oxygen much better than warmer water.
It will be fine - please do update us when you get home.

Paris eh? Nice :)

Did a 5g water change last night when I got home (it's a 29g biocube) and it was smelling pretty harsh of dead coral...dead bristleworms everywhere...I have a 5g pico in my room so I transfer my clowns and lawnmower blenny but the Picasso and LMB are not looking good...did another change this morning after temple (praying didn't work) and took out some rock...the question is what happened...two possible culprits are the nudibranch I had...or the kalk I used to kill the majanos,..I still have two cardinals and blue dot sleeper goby in the tank with nowhere to go...any medication I can get for the fish? The eyes are looking pretty bad. Terrible :(
