I am trying to add some baffles to a 20 gallon sump and I was wondering if I need to specifically use the silicone sealants made for aquariums or are there any sealants that I can buy from Home Depot/Lowes that will serve the same purpose too, (and will still be fish/reef safe)? Any input is appreciated.

:thanks:

The silicone pictured in the RC thread is the best for aquarium use.

GE Silicone II Window And Door

You can use this for reef applications as long as you don't get Kitchen and Bathroom, they have anti-mold chemicals in them (bad for fishies).

Romain, the Marine Goop is fish and reef safe?

I found this on RC magazine and it's recommended by Dr. Ron I think?

The far middle one is what I used to DIY my sump a year ago. I haven't seen any negative impact since then.

I used an Epoxy (2 part) to secure the acrylic to the glass and then once it dried (I waited 24 hours) I went over it with a health portion of Aquarium Silicone from HD.

Prior to using the Epoxy I used sandpaper on the tank to roughen up the glass where I was placing the baffles. Just to give the Epoxy a little more to hold onto.
