Hello All,

I have an IceCap 175 watt MH ballast that powes mogul lamps. Will this ballast also power 150 watt DE lamps? I was going to buy another ballast but everybody says no need to the IceCap will work. I just wanted to check but I'm pretty sure it'll work. Anyone currently doing this or have any knowledge on the subject? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :spin:

I would call Icecap to get a definetive answer to this. Unless someone with electrical engineering exp. is answering you. You will get the wrong answer. Better safe than sorry.

It's a simple thing, watt is defined in English as Watts = Volts x Current. Here you got your voltage constant (115V), so more watts means more current going through your bulb. 150W bulb is designed to withstand 150W, excess current will likely blow your bulb.

I wouldn't do it, and yes, I do have an Electrical Engineering degree in college:)

175 Watt Ballast For a 150 Watt DE Lamp!

Yen & ChemChef,

Thanks for the input it's greatly appreciated. I'll try to contact IceCap first before I think about using it on the DE lamp. Its always good to get others thoughts who have some knowledge and experience before trying things out.

Thanks
