So here is the issue...

I have a 92 frontbow corner unit... looking for a skimmer that I can install that will fit underneath... as many of you (like Herman!) know, the space is extremely limited. Even worse, the sump underneath is a bit high so the amount of space inbtwn the top of the sump and the frame of the stand allows for only 6 inches... so any canister within a hanging skimmer is difficult to take out if possible at all... putting one inside the sump is also tough given limited space. any ideas or do I need to try another custom? ??

Last time, I made the mitake of getting a custom skimmer from 1000 Island which I am ready to give away. I bought one from another the LFS on 65th and 11 Ave today (similar to remora) but as you can see from the pics i posted, i will need to return it.

The 92 corners are tough. Jim used the remora pro in a 30 g tenecor tank. That fit along the front of the stand. I dumped a 20 high along one side and stuck the BX3 in there. I still have a lot of room to pull out the collection cup despite the plumbing above it. Although this skimmer is totally overkill for this tank I will stick to it. I still have enough space down there now for the calcium reactor ozone generator and other misc items. So far I am quite happy with the fit and it all looks clean so far.

Here is my build log and you can see pics of the skimmer placement.

Hey Man,

I hear ya... the issue I have is that my refugium is part of the sump so I dont have the space to put something that size inside of it... it is a 20 high. Your fuge is in your canopy, correct?

Here are some layout pics that might help you out

sump diagram:

The refugium is a cube that sits next to the skimmer. As for my layout, I will have the refugium residing in the canopy and it will be gravity fed to preserve the pods that exit into the tank.

Here is a pic of the remora pro

I started digging for more space and now have 28.5" Look at this pic on the bottom. I believe Jim took out the false floor in there. Ill ask him.

Even with 26 inched the BX 3 will work fine. That skimmer all you need is an inch of clearance. Besides that cup is about a gallon.

Would you consider putting another small cabinet (like a night stand) besides the tank? You'll have a lot more options with that. I had the Remora pro on my wife's 46 bow with a stock AGA stand few years ago, hard to use a flash light and be on the floor to adjust it properly. A smaller RC needle wheel skimmer will work well for your tank if you can use it outside of the stand.

Not a bad idea to consider... but the tank is in the living room and not sure i want to do that... probaby better off just rebuilding the sump before I add another cabinet... but will consider and thanks for the suggestion. Anyone selling a remora or know of a LFS that I can pick one up at to see if it will fit?

well, the issue is not so much the size but how much is above the point of where they hang on the sump, plus the extra space required to take the cup out...

so, as an example:

15 inch sump... but 6 inches hang over the 20 high sump and 6 inches required to remove the cup wouldnt work- as that would require 27 total inches and I only have 26...

I have a fuge in my sump so unless it is really small.

sorry if you guys already understood this... I am just going batty trying to find something that works without having to replace my sump but there doesnt seem to be an answer that will alleviate this!
