The RO and the carbon filter do most of the work, DI is going to align your molecules and soften your water and its supposed to remove some of the heavy metals in the water like copper although i can't find any info on that now. But running a 6 stage DI filter is supposed to be as good as a standard RO/DI filter.

You should be fine running just RO, the DI just helps. As far as DI correlating with cyano or other PITA algae outbreaks its not 100%, it could be your tank finishing a cycle. And your RO should be reading 0 without the DI Noel =0P

Why are you running a 150+$ filter without a ~10$ tool that tells you if your filter is working correctly? TDS meters usually come free with the filters most of the time they are sold. Go and buy one. Or borrow one at least.

I have a tds meeter, I agree you cant get dis of phosphates 100%. My tds did not come with my filter and I had to buy it seperate. But all in all I am happy with adding another pr filter block in the di chamber.

on my old system i ran just an R/O because my tds was 37 going in and i was always getting 0 coming out and never had any issues in my tank. the tds is what's important...keeping it as close to 0 as possible. if your R/0 cannot get a 0 reading, then add the DI
