How is this sand

looking to buy 120lbs - anyone think is not good sand or have better sand to pick from? Dont want buy the live sand bags since I am starting with dry rock.
want to start to cycle my tank next week

How much of a sandbed are you planning? Will you have any wrasses in the tank or critters that require a sandbed?

The super fine sand tends to compact down (if it doesn't blow around), not a bad idea to mix it with a sand that isn't so fine.

The first 3 types here can be mixed together in pairs or altogether to give a nice appearance

Caribsea Araglive series sand is good stuff. I have used it several times. They offer many different grain sizes and colors.

I am an Oolite Fan myself.

Jarrett, we've got probably 1500-2000 lbs of different CaribSea sands in stock. The most widely used combinations seem to include their dry Special Grade Reef Sand & Fiji Pink Reef Sand.

I've always used the CaribSea line of sands in all my tanks through out the years....the oolite is a finer sugar grain size which is what I used in my fuge and in my main display because of the greater flow rate I use the Special Grade SeaFlor which has a larger grain size....

Another vote for the Caribsea, seafloor grade specifically.

The oolithic size in my opinion is best used if your tank will not have much flow or animal disturbance. I used it in my fuge. The slightest touch will cause it to spread around/make water cloudy.
