I had a thought on controlling my Xenia- I love it, but don't want it to move much past where it is now. I know if I placed my frogspawn near it, the frogspawn would effectively kill any Xenia it touched- would a brain coral do the same thing? I have a perfect spot for a clam- but Xenia would be touching it and I am worried about the clam being irritated by it. If I moved the brain there instead and placed the clam where the brain was previously- would the brain keep the Xenia from speading?

Then I would have a spot for my clam, and a spot for the brain- and Xenia control! Any thoughts?

If you are worried about your xenia taking over I would not block it in. Just put it on a rock by itsself it cant grow if it has nowhere to go. If i were you i would let it grow its very easy to scrape off plus you could make some money off it. People here are always willing to buy frags of xenia for $5-$10

yeah- i know that i could do that, the only problem is that uless I really cut it back the Xenia will still touch the Clam (if I put it in the spot I have in mind) due to water flow (I have a small tank- 16g)- and I do not know how a clam would react to being touched by the Xenia frequently. If I place the brain there would things be fine- with the Xenia only being the things affected- or would it affect the brain too?

xenia wont sting, the brain will sting it and kill parts of it. As for if it'll affect the brain...not sure if dying xenia is what you want in your tank. Might risk polluting your tank. Oh yea when my frogspawn stings my xenia...pieces of the xenia float around a form new colonies...lolz

ha- yeah that happens when mine get sucked up into my powerheads- I've found 4 new Xenia heads growing in various parts of my tank! Do you think the Xenia will irritate my clam? I'll be trimming back the Xenia soon- but no matter what I do there will always be some that will be close by and getting blown around in the flow.
