Debris in sump

Anyone have ideas of how to siphon the debris out of the sump? I have an MSX160 and underneath the skimmer is teh pump theres lots of debris there.

I tried using a PH to move it out of the skimmer chamber then it got into the return and slowly settled in that chamber and now its a mess lOl

i take a maxijet, and use the intake as a vaccum with a hose at the end that goes into a bucket... works pretty good!

nice idea. should give this one a try.

i got some debris at the bottom of the skimmer in the body too - not sure why its settling in.

Try using a siphon hose and draining it into a bucket or shallow pan depending on the height of the sump. Think gravel vacuum !!!

you should turn the return pump off. Nasty stuff could be in there, don't want it to get into your main tank.

Yes, it sucks the water out as well! I just make it a water change with a little extra.
My normal w/c are done with a python pulling the water from the DT itself. But once a year I use the shop vac via the sump sucking up what ever gunk has gotten stuck in there.
I haven't done in 2 years now, and the sump is still pretty much clean. Ah, and to think I don't use socks!:tongue1:
Umm, wonder what the box the returns go into looks like.LOL
But yes, the shop vac is a great tool.......

Yup. I use the shop vac called the bulldog. Nice little 4 gallon wet vac. sucks the collection of garbage on the bottom and in between the baffles.
ni mess no fussing. When i'm done dump and flush it pack away into the closet.
